The Cedar Rapids office of Iowa Workforce Development will be housed temporarily next week at the Kirkwood Training and Outreach Center, 3375 Armar Dr. in Marion.
The office will move permanently on Aug. 2 to the Iowa Works’ Center on the lower level of Lindale Mall. The office will be a one-stop shop for job-search and unemployment benefit services.
Vega said the location of the temporary Iowa Workforce Development office will be posted at the current office, 800 Seventh St. SE, and at the future location in Lindale Mall. Telephone lines will be forwarded to the Armar Drive location.
Kirkwood Community College will move its Skills to Employment staff from the Kirkwood Resource Center to the center during the week of Aug. 16.
Carlos Vega, manager of the Iowa Workforce Development Center, said the agency needs to vacate its existing office on Seventh Street SE on Friday to clean up and restore the building to its original condition.
Mercy Medical Center bought the 15,000-square-foot building in 2008 when the state’s lease was set to expire. Iowa Workforce Development didn’t vacate the building, however, requesting two lease extensions that end July 30.
Mercy Medical Center plans to renovate the building to house 55 Mercy employees in the billing, centralized scheduling and finance operations of the medical center.
