Work to begin on North Liberty McDonald’s

Work is finally set to begin on a new North Liberty’s McDonald’s restaurant.

A groundbreaking will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9 at the northeast corner of Penn Street and Highway 965 in North Liberty, according to Karla Kammerer-Shedd of Creative Management, which will own and operate the restaurant.

The restaurant will duplicate the same contemporary cafe style as a new McDonald’s restaurant built by Creative Management in Coralville last year, and a McDonald’s being remodeled by Creative Management in Washington.

A fall opening is planned for the restaurant, according to Creative Management.

The project received zoning approval last fall by the City of North Liberty, but could not begin until receiving final design approval from corporate officials.

The McDonald’s will be located in Penn Landing, a recent commercial development that includes Capanna Coffee and Alphagraphics.

Plans presented to the city showed McDonald’s taking up 3,000 square feet of a 7,856-square-foot multi-use building.
