Awards

The American Institute of Architects Iowa Chapter awarded Neumann Monson Architects with a Merit Award for a private residence in Iowa City. OPN Architects Inc. received a Merit Award for the Carnegie-Stout Public Library in Dubuque.

University of Iowa Community Credit Union was recently awarded a first-place Diamond Award at the Credit Union Executive Society’s annual marketing conference for a series of television spots featuring local blues musician Kevin B.F. Burt.

Seminars

Andrew Revkin, author and blogger on environmental issues, will speak at Iowa State University’s Memorial Union, 8 p.m., Oct. 24, for the 2011 John Pesek Colloquium on Sustainable Agriculture. Revkin will focus on the predicted peak of the human population at nine billion in 2050. Free.

Bruce Helmer and/or Sean Tobin of the syndicated radio program “Your Money” will hold a free event at 4 p.m., Thursday, at Elmcrest Country Club, 1 Zach Johnson Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids.

The GMA 2011 Annual Marketing Summit will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 28, at the University of Iowa’s IMU Ballroom. Susan Johnson will speak on “Thriving Amidst Chaos” at the Oct. 20 luncheon meeting of the American Advertising Federation: Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, at the Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education, 7725 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration deadline is Oct. 17. Networking

The Lean Six Sigma Network will discuss 5S, from 7:30 to 9 a.m., Wednesday, at the Iowa Quality Center, Marion. The program will be presented by Pat O’Connor with Alliant Energy.

The Sustainability Network will meet for a brown bag lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, at the Iowa Quality Center, Marion. Stephan Kuhl with the National Weather Service will focus on how the Quad Cities Weather Forecast offices help prepare for extreme weather events.

Meetings

The Iowa Inventors group will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, at the Community Savings Bank, Robins. Speaker will be Chad Stamper, Midwest IP Marketplace, on marketing and licensing of inventions.

The Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau will hold its fiscal year 2011 annual meeting, presented by Tektivity, 11:30 a.m., Nov. 10, at the Hotel at Kirkwood Center.
