How to Make Money Selling Services Online: 5 Tips to Get Started

If you’re looking to make some extra cash, you have a number of options. One option is to become a virtual assistant, offering your services to clients online.

However, if you want to get started, it can be tricky to figure out exactly what steps to take. In this blog post, we will discuss the various ways you can make money online, including offering virtual assistant services, getting paid to take surveys, and more.

Selling Digital Services

One of the more modern ways to make cash is by selling digital services. These are services that can be delivered electronically, such as via online surveys, software downloads, and more. They’re often presented as a way to make extra cash or even as an alternative to paid employment.

For example, I have a client who runs his own virtual assisting business. He charges clients $5/hour and offers them a range of services, from checking email to finding information to conducting online searches and more. He’s able to make this work because he offers a pure digital service. There is no physical product to deliver, and there’s no setup or training required. All his clients have to do is log onto the platform, find the tasks they need help with, and then pay him for the work he does.

Selling Physical Products

Another way to make cash is to sell products that you’ve manufactured or grown. This can be a bit more involved, as you’ll typically need to set up shop in a physical location, such as a store or even a house, depending on the product you’re selling. You’ll also need to consider whether you want to do this business in person or online, as well as whether you’ll want to set up your own store or hire a storefront.

For example, I have a client who owns his own flower shop that he started in his garage. He gets his flowers delivered every week, and they’re always in demand. He’s been able to make this work because he’s found a gap in the market. He originally bought the flowers because he knew he’d be able to sell them for more than he paid for them, but over the years, this has become his primary source of income. He now has employees working for him part-time, delivering flowers and doing other tasks as needed.

Doing Surveys

Many jobs these days require you to take online surveys, where you’ll need to give your opinion on different products and services. You generally won’t get paid for these, but it’s a quick and easy way to make a few extra bucks here and there. Some of the more popular survey sites include Survey Junkie, Swagbucks, OneOpinion, and Ipsos iSay.

Become A Freelancer

If none of the freelancing opportunities we’ve discussed so far seem like a fit, you can become a freelancer, which is someone who gets paid to write, edit, design, or market websites, mobile apps, and more. The best thing about this option is that you can develop your own schedule and work remotely.

The downside is that you’ll need to establish your own company, create invoices, and deal with taxes. If you’d like to try freelancing, the best thing to do is to write down all the tasks you’re able to do and then connect with potential clients. You may want to consider looking for clients who are already established and have work you can access for free. Doing this can help you get your feet wet and understand what works and what doesn’t.

Selling Your Expertise

Another way to make money is to sell your expertise. Instead of selling a product, you’ll be providing a service. You’ll need to decide whether you want to do this online or in person, find customers, set up contracts, and more. The major difference here is that instead of selling a product, you’re providing a service.

For example, my client is an SEO who provides search engine optimization services to customers. He can get them ranked higher in their niche for less expensive keywords and makes a good portion of his income off this.

The downside to this is that you won’t be able to provide the best service if you don’t have the best training. It is therefore recommended that if this option appeals to you, consider getting certified in some way. Being certified will then make you more valuable as a contractor.

Become A Creator

The last option we’ll discuss is to become a creator. This is someone who has a passion for photography or videography and makes their living creating artwork for different companies and individuals. You won’t get rich off this option, but you can make a good living if you’re skilled enough. The demand for content creators is on the rise, and many large platforms, such as Netflix, Apple, and YouTube, rely heavily on content creators to maintain their services.

The downside to this option is that you’ll need to get lucky and be skilled enough to find a niche. However, if you can find a niche, the potential to make much more money is there.

There are many ways you can make money online. We’ve discussed some of the more common ones, such as selling digital services, manufacturing products, and taking online surveys. If none of these seem like a fit, you can become a freelancer, start your own business, or become a creator. Each of these options offers something different, and it’s important to think about what you can offer and what you can sell.
