The idea of being able to work remotely and set your own hours is almost too good to be true. But for those who want to make extra cash and don’t want to commit to a traditional 9-5 job, these opportunities do exist, and they can be quite lucrative. In fact, if you want to make quick cash, you should consider trying one of these platforms. Here’s how to make money online at 50.
1. Build A Portfolio
If you’ve been following the blog for a while, you’ll know that I always suggest building a portfolio as a first step to becoming an entrepreneur. Having a steady stream of work to fall back on when you’re starting out is invaluable, especially as you’re pitching your services to potential clients who may want to work with you but don’t necessarily know how good you are. A portfolio gives you something to fall back on when you’re pitching, and it also shows potential clients that you’re capable of producing high-quality work and that you’re organized enough to have a complete and updated set of work samples.
2. Find Your Niche
The most successful digital nomads that I’ve known have all had a specific niche that they specialised in. Whether you’re an expert in web design, SEO, content creation or social media, there will likely be a platform or toolset that you can put to use to make some quick cash.
If you’re looking to make money online, you have two options: either find a niche that you can specialise in and make passive income from, or, become an generalist and build up a portfolio before specializing in any one area.
3. Learn To Market
You’ve probably heard the saying, ‘you can’t sell what you don’t have’. While this may be true when trying to get customers to choose your product or service, it doesn’t apply when trying to get people to choose to buy from you. In other words, in order to make money online, you will need to learn to market.
There are a variety of ways that you can market your products or services, from making videos to blog posts to infographics to e-books. Each one of these methods has its pros and cons, depending on your budget and target audience. As a general rule of thumb, make sure to experiment with different types of marketing strategies and see what works best for you.
4. Get Connected
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I always stress the importance of getting connected. The more connections that you have, the more opportunities for you to generate income. This could mean getting connected to other entrepreneurs and startups, contributing to LinkedIn groups, joining social media networks, or setting up a Facebook group for your industry.
When getting connected, don’t just look at social media. The most successful entrepreneurs that I know are always looking for ways to gain more connections. They’ll reach out to people in person, meet with groups of strangers, and even create content that they can use to get more connects.

The best digital nomads I know are always looking for ways to minimise their workload. Instead of working alone, they’ll often work in teams, outsourcing tasks that they can’t complete themselves. In time, this will become second nature to you and reduce your stress levels as you adjust to life as an independent contractor.
