Make Money Online While on Disability

A while back, I wrote a piece for Venture Beat on how to make money online while being disabled. Since then, a few things have happened that make the advice in that article even more relevant today. So without further ado, here’s how you can make money online while on disability.

1. Online Work Is Acceptable

In the previous article, I talked about how you can take advantage of the gig economy as a means of earning an income. One of the most effective ways of doing this is by taking advantage of online work. Thanks to platforms like Airbnb and Uber, it’s now acceptable to earn money online without fear of judgment.

For those on disability, online work is a great way to make extra income. In fact, the gig economy has helped to create an environment where disability is not seen as a barrier to earning an income. Thanks to the support of online platforms, many disabled people are able to work independently and get a better sense of self-determination.

2. Digital Nomads Are The Trend

When I wrote the original article, the most effective way of making money online was through online surveys. Thanks to a variety of tools designed for this purpose, it’s now easier than ever to make money online without having to create any content. Surveys will always be a source of income for those on disability because you can do them at your leisure. Plus you get to keep whatever you earn.

For years, the only people who could consistently make money online were those who either had a lot of money to spare or could afford to lose a significant amount of time working on a venture. Thanks to the gig economy, however, the trend now is towards digital nomads. These are individuals who are constantly looking for the next best thing, the next big opportunity, and a way to earn more money online. So if you want to earn an income while on disability, the gig economy is where you need to be looking.

3. E-Commerce Is The Future Of Online Business

Even as recently as 2013, online business was mostly considered a means of earning an income rather than a way of making a living. Thanks to the rise of e-commerce and online marketplaces, however, this is no longer the case. In fact, a lot of high-earning individuals are moving towards entrepreneurship as a way of making money online. And what’s driving this trend is the fact that online business has become much more accessible. Thanks to the increased support from online platforms and the decline of desktop software, more and more people are able to work remotely and establish an online business that provides them with a significant amount of income. Plus, as a digital nomad, you can work remotely and set up shop anywhere you like. There’s no need to be tied to a physical location to run an e-commerce store.

4. Affiliate Marketing Is The Key

As I mentioned above, surveys are one of the most popular ways of making money online today. Thanks to the fact that they’re so accessible and non-demeaning, a significant number of people on disability are choosing to take this route. What’s most attractive about this line of work is that you don’t necessarily need a significant amount of money to get started. In fact, you can often get a loan for this purpose through an affiliate marketing network such as ClickBank. In addition, you’ll find a lot of support from experienced affiliates who can help you to get started and overcome any initial fears or nervousness that you might have about getting involved in such a competitive environment.

As an affiliate marketer, you will typically promote and sell a variety of products and services. You can select which products to promote based on your expertise and familiarity with the marketplace. For instance, if you’re an expert nail polish remover, you might want to choose that as your niche. Then, based on your expertise, you can choose to promote specific products that are within that niche.

Once you’ve chosen your niche, the next step is to pick your audience. You can choose to go with a broad audience and gain a lot of sales, or you can choose to target a more specific group of people and gain a better conversion rate. You’ll then need to create content to promote the products that you choose to promote. While you don’t need to create overly complex or expensive products, you do need to provide good quality content that makes a difference to your readers. To start, you can simply use free blog platforms like WordPress to create blogs for your website. Alternatively, you can use tools like Compendium that can easily turn a static webpage into a fully functioning blog. From there, you can take advantage of the wealth of knowledge on the internet to learn how to better promote your products.

5. Find Your Strengths

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you’ll know that I’m a firm believer in finding your strengths. What’s important as a person on disability is to understand your unique circumstances and what makes you different from others. Finding your strengths is just as effective as finding your weaknesses because you’ll be better equipped to overcome any obstacles that you might face.

For example, if you’re really good at creating innovative concepts and designs, you might want to consider becoming an industrial designer. If you have a strong leadership background, you could look into corporate management. Or if you have a lot of experience in sales, you could become a sales professional. If you’re really good at writing, you could find a way to put your talents to use and earn some quick cash through online journalism. The list of possibilities is endless because, as an entrepreneur, each new day is a possibility for great success.

Wrap Up

As you might imagine, the demand for an online income source has risen significantly since the publication of the original How to Make Money Online article. Not only has the number of people seeking such an arrangement increased, but so has the range of opportunities available. Thanks to the ever-evolving internet, the world of online business is richer than ever before.
